aerial photograph of The Light, Leeds Yorkshire England UK. The Light leisure and retail centre incorporates Permanent House and Headrow Buildings which are both Grade II listed. They were constructed 1930-31 and 1955 to designs by Sir Reginald Blomfield and GW Atkinson. Permanent House was home to the Leeds Permanent Building Society from 1930 to 1992.These listed buildings were then incoprated in The Light opened in 2001 when it was developed in 2001. The £100 million development involved construction of a glass roof over Upper Fountaine Street and Cross Fountaine Street. The project has been recognised with numerous architectural awards.
