aerial photograph of Dryslwyn Castle Carmarthenshire, Wales. Dryslwyn Castle was built in the early 13th century probably by Rhys Gryg. The castle was besieged and taken by Edward I in 1287. The battle involved 11000 English troops and all the technology of medieval warfare including the use of Trebuchtes and mining. Its took three weeks before the castle eventually fell. The castle was retaken by the Welsh under Owain Glyndŵr in 1403 however the vitory was short lived and it was soon retaken by English forces who then partially dismantled it to prevent further military use. Subsequently it burnt down and was used as a source of stone for building.
