aerial photographs of Greystoke Castle in the Lake District Cumbria UK. Grade II listed Greystoke Castle was first constructed as a timber castle in the 11th century. This was then rebuilt as a Pele Tower in stone. The castle was further enlarged in the 14th century after William de Greystoke was granted a royal licence to castellate. The castle was damaged during the English Civil War and rebuilt twice in the 19th century. During the second world war the castle was used as a POW camp and the grounds for tank training.
