aerial photograph of Ingarsby deserted medieval village (DMV) Leicestershire England UK. Ingersby first appears in the written historical record in 1086 when it was entered in the Doomsday book and by 1381 a dozen families were living here. The manor was owned by the Daungervill family and in 1352 they gave it to Leicester Abbey. The Abbey built a large millpond but by 1469 they had enclosed the area and the village was deserted , being used as pasture for sheep and cattle. The Abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1540 and when it was sold of it was the most valuable Grange in the county. Amongst the archeology somewhere on these images are the remains of a watermill which was mentioned in the Doomsday book and still extant in 1599 but to this day has never been found.
