aerial photograph of Quenby Hall Jacobean house Leicestershire England UK. The land was aquired by the Ashby family some time in the 13th Century.Poll Tax records of 1377 show 25 tax payers living in the viallge. By the 16th century the Ashbys had enclosed the area and removed the villages. While little remains of the village the medieval ridge and furrow ploughing is well preserved and surrounds the hall. The Hall itself was built in Jacobean Style between 1618 and 1636 by George Ashby who was also High Sheriff of Leicestershire. In more recent times Stilton Cheese was produced at the hall, although this business ceased in 2011 due to some Listeria Histeria. Nikolaus Pevsner in the Pevsner Architectural Guides describes the house as " the most important early-seventeenth century house in the county".
